My husband Tim and I are originally potters. Graduates of Alfred University College of Ceramic Art & Design. We met, married, made a baby and made pottery. We traveled up and down the East Coast marketing our creations to art galleries, boutiques and yes even Macy’s.
We made our own clay, kilns, threw the pots, waited out the process drying, trimming, firing and firing again. We were hippies who believed in American made crafted by hand and still do.
In 1982 we needed a base for our business and family. We opened the “The Store on River Road” in Fair Haven with our first bank loan from our son Jake’s baseball coach negotiated pretty much on the field after a game! My widowed mother in law, joined us moving out of an old Victorian and into an apartment in town. She had all of her antiques and accessories suddenly displaced into a 1950′s apartment with orange countertops and stucco ceilings. She kept everything she loved because they were reflections of her life and her identity. We mixed new and old, made it work and created a home she loved.
At the same time “The Store on River Road” took off with our pottery as a primary product. We expanded into upholstery, case goods, window treatments, wallpaper, rugs and accessories. We loved the Fair Haven business district and community. But soon, like my mother in law, we needed to move.
Eighteen years ago we landed in Shrewsbury another historical town in Monmouth County. We took an old house mixed the new and transformed it into a home for our business. We kept our name in honor of where we started with a slight variation “from River Road”. Like Fair Haven, Shrewsbury is a vibrant community and we are proud to be part of it.
For close to 30 years we have served thousands of home owners designing surroundings that comfort them and reflect through furniture, art and accessories who they are and where they come from and where they are going…
Just like my mother in law. My first client.
